On May 8, CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) reported another success — the 10,800-unit LNG dual-fuel car carrier (PCTC) No. 2 built for KOBC smoothly entered the dock, and the 49,900 DWT /product oil tanker No. 2 built for China Merchants Nanjing Oil Transportation Co., Ltd. held a platform erection ceremony.

On May 8, GSI held a docking ceremony for the 10,800-unit dual-fuel car carrier No. 2 built for KOBC. The owner’s representative stationed at the shipyard, the Korean Register of Shipping, and the GSI project team jointly attended and signed the docking documents.

The vessel was developed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI). It has a length of 230 meters, a beam of 40 meters, and a structural draft of 10.5 meters. It adopts /fuel dual-fuel power system technology, and is also equipped with a shaft generator and solar photovoltaic power generation system, balancing environmental protection and efficiency, meeting the IMO Tier III emission standards. Its 14-layer car deck design (including 5 movable decks) can flexibly load electric vehicles, hydrogen energy vehicles, heavy trucks, and other diverse cargo, with a maximum single-ship car capacity of 10,800 units. The entire ship is equipped with 16 sets of hydraulic power movable ramps and 2 layers of hydraulic movable decks, significantly improving loading efficiency and stability, adapting to global automotive trade demands.

The completion rate of the review for the docking transition stage of this vessel reached 96.83%, creating favorable conditions for the rapid advancement of subsequent block assembly and erection. At the same time, this vessel pioneered the pre-erection of the upper and lower ring sections of the LNG tank cabin during the block assembly stage, improving the working environment after the tank cabin closure and effectively enhancing the safety factor of operations inside the tank cabin after the liquid tank lifting. Through iterative improvements in construction processes and technology, GSI’s production design and construction capabilities for car carriers have been continuously enhanced, achieving efficient and high-quality delivery.

On the same day, GSI held a platform erection ceremony for the 49,900 DWT /product oil tanker No. 2 built for China Merchants Nanking Oil Transportation (CMNOT). The owner’s representative, classification society representative, and the GSI project team jointly signed the milestone documents.

This series of 49,900 DWT /product oil tankers plans to build 4 vessels, scheduled for delivery to the owner between 2026 and 2027. This vessel type is the 16th generation MR tanker independently developed and designed by GSI. It has a total length of 183 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters, a structural draft of 13.2 meters, and a service speed of 14.5 knots. It reserves interfaces for methanol dual-fuel power drive, meets IMO TIER I emission standards, and its EEDI energy efficiency index meets the IMO Phase 3 requirements. Its intelligent energy efficiency management meets the I-SHIP(E) classification notation requirements of the China Classification Society (CCS). This vessel type features high speed, light lightweight, low energy consumption, and strong adaptability, reaching a leading level among similar vessels in terms of energy consumption indicators, environmental performance, and reliability requirements.

GSI and CMNOT maintain a deep friendship and a solid foundation for cooperation. Both parties have always upheld the spirit of mutual support and pragmatic cooperation. Over 16 years of collaboration, GSI has cumulatively built and delivered 12 high-quality MR tankers to CMNOT.
