Finnlines and the Port of Långnäs inaugurated a new passenger terminal in Åland, which meets the growing demand for passenger services and significantly streamlines the movement of customers between the ship and the terminal.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by customers, key stakeholders, decision-makers, port representatives and journalists.

“There was a wonderful and enthusiastic atmosphere at the inauguration ceremony. It was a pleasure to see how the guests and the first passengers received the new terminal. We see significant growth potential in Åland’s tourism and we want to actively participate in developing the region’s accessibility and attractiveness, in collaboration with local agents. Our goal is to provide reliable transport solutions and be a solid partner for Åland’s tourism and hospitality sector,” said Finnlines CEO Thomas Doepel.

The new terminal is located right next to the quay, and the journey from the ship to the terminal is shorter than before. This streamlines and simplifies both disembarkation and embarkation. With the increase in cruise traffic in particular, the terminal improves the overall customer experience.

The terminal serves Finnlines’ Superstar class vessels, the MS Finnsirius and the MS Finncanopus, which operate on the Naantali-Långnäs-Kapellskär route. The number of passengers on this route has increased significantly with the addition of the new vessels.

“The new terminal tangibly brings the ship and passengers closer together, streamlining and simplifying the travel chain. Even more consideration has been given to ensuring that smooth and barrier-free flow is a priority, making the journey more pleasant and efficient,” explained Marco Palmu, Director of Passenger Services at Finnlines.

The new terminal building is approximately 16 meters high and has an area of about 500 square meters. The terminal offers passengers modern waiting areas, as well as direct access to the ship.

“The number of passengers and vehicles transiting through Långnäs has increased significantly, and the port experiences heavy traffic daily. This development is of great importance for tourism in Åland,” stated Ronny Eriksson, Managing Director of the Port of Långnäs.

The project is part of the long-term development of the Port of Långnäs. The investment of over USD 3 million boosts tourism in the region and consolidates Åland’s position as a major communications hub between Finland and Sweden.
