The German armaments giant Rheinmetall confirmed its further expansion into the shipbuilding sector, claiming a role as an integrated provider for the armed forces. This development follows the acquisition of the NVL shipbuilding unit of Lürssen, which, in its first month of operation under the new management, recorded sales of 77 million euros.
The company now covers the production of unmanned vessels, frigates and other warships. Its portfolio includes programs such as the German ship FDB424 and the Bulgarian MMPV90, while it is simultaneously negotiating with the German Ministry of Defense for the construction of the F126 warships.
At the level of strategic acquisitions, Rheinmetall submitted a non-binding offer for German Naval Yards in Kiel, entering into direct competition with Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), against the backdrop of increasing European defense spending.
At the same time, it is recalled that the German company proceeded with a partnership with MSC to bid for the bankrupt Romanian shipyard Mangalia, with the prospect of transforming it into a central shipbuilding hub for Eastern Europe.
