The Tapajós River waterway closed the year 2025 with 16.8 tons of cargo moved, representing a growth of 14.3% compared to 2024.
One of the most notable achievements of the reviewed period was the high operational efficiency, such as the passage of a convoy of 36 barges with a capacity of 110,000 tons.
Cargo transport on the Tapajós River is not new, but its sophistication has reached new levels. Currently, the movement is led by solid bulk cargo, mainly soybeans and corn, which arrive from the producing regions of Mato Grosso, via BR-163, to the port facilities of Miritituba, in the municipality of Itaituba (PA).
From there, the barges navigate along the river to the port terminals of Santarém and Barcarena, in Pará, from where the products are exported to international markets.
In 2025, the transport of soybeans and corn represented 88.4% of the movement on the Tapajós River channel. Likewise, a 40% increase in the movement of oil and its derivatives was recorded, in addition to a 46.8% increase in the transport of fertilizers compared to the previous year.
In just the first two months of 2026, 2.38 million tons were transported via the Tapajós River waterway, with soybeans and corn being the most prominent products, representing 86% of the total traffic on the waterway, in addition to fertilizers and liquid bulk cargo, with a share of 6.3% and 7.4%, respectively.
