Recently, Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute under COSCO Shipping and Lloyd’s Register (LR) formally signed a cooperation agreement at the Posidonia International Maritime Exhibition in Greece, jointly launching the “European Feeder Network Layout and New Energy Power Adaptability Study.”

This study aims to provide precise support for the low-carbon transformation of European feeder shipping, assisting the regional shipping industry in achieving green compliance and high-quality development.

The project is led by Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute, in collaboration with Lloyd’s Register, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and COSCO Shipping (UK) Company. It will closely focus on the core needs of green upgrading and compliance development in European feeder shipping, addressing key challenges in low-carbon transformation by fully integrating the resources, technical expertise, and operational advantages of the four parties, striving to break through bottlenecks encountered in the green development of feeder shipping.

All parties will concentrate on joint research in key areas such as zero-carbon shipping technology verification, industry standard and specification research, transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, and construction of green demonstration scenarios, aiming to create a feasible, replicable, and scalable benchmark solution for zero-carbon European feeder shipping.

As the core unit of COSCO Shipping’s technology and manufacturing sector, Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute will take this overseas cooperation as a new starting point, continuously deepening comprehensive and in-depth collaborative innovation with internationally renowned classification societies, top universities, and overseas platforms, contributing “Chinese solutions” and industry practical experience to the global green transformation of feeder shipping.
