The International Maritime Organization has announced an evacuation plan for the over 11,000 seafarers still stranded in the Gulf. In a press release, the organization specified that this operation will be conducted in close collaboration with Iran, Oman, all other coastal states in the region, the United States, and the maritime industry.

“We have obtained the necessary security guarantees and have thoroughly verified the conditions for safe navigation to support these operations. We remain fully committed to ensuring the safety of seafarers and the continuity of global trade,” stated the IMO Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez, who nonetheless expressed full satisfaction with the historic agreement between the USA and IRAN.

“After months of suffering and deprivation for thousands of innocent seafarers, and negative repercussions for the entire world, we have finally reached an understanding that marks a decisive step towards restoring maritime security and puts an end to the unacceptable attacks on civilian navigation,” he stated.

Dominguez finally wished to pay tribute to the fourteen innocent seafarers who tragically lost their lives during this conflict. “Their dedication to the service of global trade will not be forgotten,” he said.
