On June 23, China Marine Bunker (Chimbusco) and Shenergy Group signed a ship green methanol procurement agreement, locking in 6,000 tons of marine green methanol, setting a new record for a single domestic green methanol procurement. The two parties held a delivery ceremony on June 24 at the Fubao Terminal of Shanghai Chemical Industry Park.
This largest single domestic procurement of green methanol by Chimbusco has injected strong momentum into the construction of the “dual center” for green fuel bunkering and trading in Shanghai International Shipping.
Chimbusco is one of the designated pilot enterprises for green methanol bunkering at Shanghai Port designated by Shanghai Municipality. Relying on its large-scale bunkering network covering the country’s coastal and riverine areas, it has implemented methanol bunkering demonstration projects in multiple locations including Shanghai Yangshan, Dalian, Ningbo Zhoushan, Qingdao, and Shenzhen. In April this year, it successfully completed Zhejiang Province’s first ship-to-ship bonded green methanol bunkering operation, accumulating rich experience in the full-process operation of methanol bunkering.
Chimbusco’s strength in hardware supporting facilities is also leading in the industry. The newly built dual-phase stainless steel professional methanol bunkering vessel “Zhongran Lvneng 85” was delivered on June 5 and can operate at multiple ports within China. Combined with its nationwide bonded storage and integrated supply system, Chimbusco has established a unique advantage in undertaking large-scale, multi-regional methanol fuel orders.
This green methanol procurement is a key implementation project for fulfilling the national ten-ministerial Shanghai Green Fuel “Dual Center” plan and the pilot tasks for Shanghai Port. The cooperation relies on Shenergy Group’s local 100,000-ton green methanol production capacity and Chimbusco’s professional methanol bunkering service capabilities, laying the foundation for opening up the entire chain of “Shanghai-produced, Shanghai-bunkered” green methanol. At the same time, leveraging Chimbusco’s cross-regional allocation advantages and coordinating green methanol production capacity across multiple domestic regions, a nationwide green fuel supply guarantee channel has been established, capable of meeting shipowners’ multi-regional, large-scale green methanol bunkering needs.
With Shanghai as the core hub for national green marine fuel, Chimbusco continues to increase investment in bunkering vessels and storage facility construction, improve carbon traceability and safety operation standards, simultaneously deploy green LNG and green ammonia as diversified low-carbon fuels, build a one-stop comprehensive green marine fuel service system, and construct a globally competitive green fuel supply chain, helping China’s shipping industry lead the global decarbonization process.
In the next step, Chimbusco will take this green methanol procurement as an opportunity to establish a long-term and stable cooperative relationship with Shenergy Group, continuously expand the scale of green methanol supply guarantee, leverage the scale advantages of central state-owned enterprises, and safeguard the realization of the “dual carbon” goals with concrete actions.
