According to the UKMTO update, the tanker sustained damage to its bridge, while so far no injuries have been reported among the crew members, who are safe. At the same time, no marine pollution or other type of environmental damage has been detected.
The competent authorities are conducting an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and to identify the object that struck the ship.
The UKMTO issued a recommendation to commercial vessels operating in the area to continue transits with increased caution and to immediately report any suspicious activity or incident.
The new incident is expected to once again heighten concerns of the international maritime community regarding the safety of navigation in one of the most important sea lanes globally, through which a significant portion of global energy cargoes passes.
