According to news from the shipping industry website, Georg Whist, CEO of Norwegian car carrier operator Global Car Carrier (GCC), stated that after being acquired by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) in 2024, the company has gained greater flexibility and can leverage the scale advantages of the container shipping giant to accelerate its expansion pace, with the goal of expanding its fleet from 22 vessels to over 60.
Georg Whist said, “With the full support of the new owner, GCC will continue to grow.”
He pointed out, “Being part of the MSC family and the MSC Group makes me very proud. I believe GCC has a strong value proposition and has done many things right, which is why GCC plans to accelerate its business expansion. I look forward to achieving this under the management of the MSC Group.”
He noted that privatization has also changed how the company allocates earnings. Now, profits are no longer used to pay dividends but are directly invested in GCC’s expansion and fleet renewal.
He said, “To some extent, after privatization, we can act faster because decision-making is quicker. The speed and agility of the MSC Group are impressive.”
Furthermore, regarding fleet decarbonization, the GCC CEO stated that they will work hand in hand with the MSC team. In the shipping industry, container and car transport will lead shipping decarbonization because the goods transported are all manufactured industrial products. In this context, GCC can leverage the experience and full support of the MSC Group to drive the transition.
