UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has secured chartering cover for routine, emergency and salvage operations as part of a package of ship brokering services

Braemar ACM Shipbroking has won a seven-year contract to provide a range of ship brokerage services to the Ministry of Defence’s salvage and marine operations (SALMO) team in a contract worth up to £9.9M (US$12.3M).

This contract covers sale and purchase, spot and period chartering and market intelligence for all SALMO’s needs across the globe including emergency response and salvage for naval ships, auxiliary support ships, offshore patrol vessels and other ships under UK MoD’s operations.

Braemar said it won the contract after a competitive bid against other shipbrokers.

“This is an important contract which will provide a range of services to UK Defence, and we look forward to working with Braemar over the next seven years,” said SALMO team head Andy Liddell.

SALMO sits within the MOD’s procurement organisation for defence equipment and support.

Braemar global head of offshore energy services Edward Molyneux said the MOD “has exceptionally high standards and expects its partners to consistently deliver value for money.”

Braemar’s head of projects Adrian Wooldridge said multiple sections within the ship brokerage group will collaborate to to meet the contracting requirements of SALMO.

“A contract of this breadth and depth is as complex as a symphony, and that requires a whole orchestra to do it justice,” said Mr Wooldridge.

It will require “multi-desk collaboration and sharing of expertise across numerous functions”.
