Huarun Dadong undertakes BW Dominica FSRU conversion project commencement

As a core backbone enterprise in domestic LNG ship conversion, the BW Manzanillo Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) conversion project undertaken by China Resources Dadong held its commencement ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on August 6, 2026. Representatives from BW, Hanwha, DNV classification society, and the China Resources Dadong project team attended the ceremony.

Currently, the project’s design and equipment procurement work has essentially been completed, and it will now fully enter the construction phase of power plant modules and prefabrication of cryogenic piping. The cooperative teams of both parties adhere to a problem-oriented approach, maintain close coordination, and focus on the two core objectives of design detail optimization and production efficiency improvement, fully leveraging mature technical experience and construction systems from previous FSRU conversion projects to steadily advance this project in an orderly manner.

Earlier this year, China Resources Dadong signed an agreement with Korea’s Hanwha Power Systems (HPS) to jointly provide one-stop turnkey FSRU conversion services for the “LNG BENUE” vessel owned by BW LNG.

The “LNG BENUE” is a 145,000 cubic meter NO96-type LNG carrier that has been in service for 20 years. After conversion, it will become a high-end offshore energy facility with combined LNG receiving, storage, and regasification functions. With advantages such as low initial investment, short construction cycles, and flexible deployment, FSRUs have become an important solution for regional gas supply and seasonal peak shaving in the context of global energy structure transformation.

The core conversion works of this vessel encompass upgrades to multiple key systems: construction of a new power plant GCU module with four dual-fuel generators, installation of the core regasification module, seawater heating system modification, metering skid installation, cryogenic system conversion (including cryogenic pipes and double-wall pipes), addition of LNG supply pumps, and installation of quick-release hook equipment and a ship-to-ship (STS) connection system, comprehensively endowing the vessel with floating energy terminal functions.

According to the project plan, the “LNG BENUE” is scheduled to enter the yard in early December 2026 for conversion, system commissioning, and other works, with a construction period of six months.

The smooth implementation and efficient progress of this project once again demonstrate China Resources Dadong’s deep technical accumulation, mature project management capabilities, and strong market competitiveness in the high-end offshore engineering equipment conversion field.
