The first half of 2026 closed for the port of Venice with overall figures very similar to those of the first six months of last year: 12,284,355 tonnes of goods handled, equal to +0.2%.
Decidedly more significant variations, however, within the individual commodity categories.
Liquid bulk, for example, recorded a marked decrease (-11%, 3.09 million tonnes), “connected to dynamics at national level” according to the Port System Authority.
Sustained, on the other hand, was the growth of solid bulk – exceeding 4.1 million tonnes – driven by agribulk products (cereals, grains and animal feed) with over 1.2 million tonnes at Porto Marghera, by metallurgical products (+13.9% for 1,136,143 tonnes) and by the minerals, cements and limes sector, where traffic of 1,172,901 tonnes was recorded in Venice (+6.7%).
Slight growth (1.7% for 5,072,345 tonnes) in general cargo, with the positive result of containers (2,818,630 tonnes, +8.4%, 264,069 Teu, equal to an increase of 4.6%) which more than offset the decline in ro-ro (1,192,817 tonnes, -3.5%) and the remaining miscellaneous goods (-7.8%, 1,060,898 tonnes).
As for Chioggia, the 470 thousand tonnes were worth a +14% in the comparison between the first half-years /2025, a differential due to a +44% in project cargo against a -5.9% in solid bulk.
Cruise passengers down in Venice (204,327, -13.1%) and up in Chioggia (15,382, +18.6%).
