On May 9, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., as joint sellers and the world’s top two leaders in the field of luxury cruise ships, Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean Cruises, launched a joint venture in Shanghai, Qingdao, Beijing and Miami, the United States successfully signed a contract for the construction of a 93,500-ton and a 120,000-ton lifting floating dock through the “cloud contract”.It is expected to begin in June.
The two new floating docks, which will be used to expand the dry dock capacity of Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas, will be delivered in 2024.
The lift capacity of the two floating docks meets the lift capacity requirements of existing and currently planned cruise ships and most ship repair jobs in global trade.
It will be used for the repair and refit work of the luxury cruise fleet of the two cruise companies. After completion and delivery, it will become the largest floating dock in the Western Hemisphere and one of the largest floating docks in the world, which can meet the docking requirements of the world’s largest luxury cruise ships.
