A declaration aimed at enhancing the protection of seafarers worldwide was adopted in Manila (Philippines) as part of the “International Conference on the Human Rights, Safety, and Well-being of Seafarers,” reports Seafarers Journal.
The document includes eight key commitments aimed at ensuring the safety of merchant fleet crew members in the face of growing threats, including global health crises and armed conflicts.

According to the Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the UN in Geneva, Carlos Sorreta, the document prepares the global maritime community to meet the requirements of a new era based on justice, efficiency, and sustainability.

Following the conference, the Philippine government also called on all participants in the maritime sector—governments, shipowners, and trade unions—to join in supporting this initiative.
