In Mumbai, first agreement between Rixi and the Minister of Ports and Shipping, Sarbananda Sonowal
Mumbai – An Italy-India working group to define common projects for the development of ports, integrated logistics and the security of supply chains along the Imec corridor (India – Middle East – Europe). This will be the first step to get the collaboration between the two countries in the maritime and logistics sector off the ground: this was decided by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi and the Indian Minister of Ports and Shipping, Sarbananda Sonowal, who met during the India Maritime Week currently taking place in Mumbai.
In his mission between India and Qatar, Deputy Minister Rixi aims to forge alliances for the maritime and infrastructure sector with the rapidly growing Indian reality, precisely through the corridor project to connect it to Europe via the Middle East.
The working group agreed upon with Minister Sonowal will be composed of institutional experts together with representatives from the private sectors of the two countries. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between the Indian and Italian port systems is being defined.
Rixi’s mission continued with participation in the Leaders’ Conclave, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and subsequently the Deputy Minister participated as a main speaker in the roundtable on international connectivity, which was an opportunity to present the “Italia 2032” plan, supported by 200 billion euros of investments, to modernize infrastructure and strengthen the connections between Asia and Europe, with Italy as the Southern gateway to Europe for Asia.
After India, Rixi will be in Doha, where meetings are scheduled with the Ministers of Transport and Urban Mobility, as well as with the heads of the Qatar Sovereign Fund with the aim of “exploring new investment opportunities in the field of strategic infrastructure and sustainable mobility” as explained in a note from the Deputy Minister.
