In its latest results for the 2021-2022 financial year, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) reports it achieved a total cargo volume of 312 million tonnes, a growth rate of 26% year on year. It points out that its journey from 200 million tonnes to 300 million tones was achieved in just three years. Meanwhile its Mundra port facility became the first commercial port in India to handle more than 150 million tonnes in a single year and continues to be the largest container handling port in India, moving 6.5 million TEU, 830,000 TEU more than JNPT.
APSEZ growth in cargo volume was led by dry cargo (+42%), followed by containers (+14%), and liquids (+19%). In the container segment, APSEZ handled 8.2 million TEU, increasing its market share within the Indian ports segment.
APSEZ is optimistic about achieving further growth in 2022-3. Gangavaram Container Terminal is to commence operations in the second quarter of the new financial year, with an initial volume estimate of 150,000 TEU a year, while the new Dhamra LNG project is expected to commence operations by November 2022. Overall APSEZ is expected to handle a cargo volume of 350-360 million tonnes in the next financial year, setting a new record high.
