ADSB and Kongsberg Maritime win Kuwait Coast Guard waterjet upgrade deal

Must read

Kongsberg Maritime, in partnership with EDGE Group entity Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), has been awarded a contract to upgrade waterjet propulsion systems on 13 vessels operated by the Kuwait Coast Guard, Kongsberg said in a statement.

The agreement forms part of the Coast Guard’s strategic fleet modernization program. Under the deal, ADSB will install Kongsberg’s Kamewa S63-4 waterjets, Jet Control Systems (Extended), and power packs across the fleet.

The systems will replace existing third-party equipment on ten vessels and be retrofitted on three others.

Installation is scheduled between the first quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027 at ADSB’s facilities, where the fleet is currently undergoing a mid-life upgrade.

The upgrade follows the Kuwait Coast Guard’s decision to replace, rather than refurbish, its propulsion systems in order to improve performance and reliability.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) is a subsidiary of the EDGE Group, a United Arab Emirates-based advanced technology and defence conglomerate. ADSB specializes in the construction, repair, and refit of naval and commercial vessels, providing shipbuilding and maintenance services to regional navies and commercial operators from its facilities in Abu Dhabi.

Kongsberg Maritime AS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kongsberg Gruppen ASA, a Norwegian technology company headquartered in Kongsberg, Norway. The company develops and supplies marine automation, propulsion, and control systems for commercial, offshore, and defence vessels worldwide.

The Kuwait Coast Guard operates under the Ministry of Interior of the State of Kuwait. It is responsible for maritime security, border protection, and search and rescue operations within Kuwait’s territorial waters.
