Ærø has found its new transport director

Must read

On December 1, 2025, Hilmar Eliasen will assume the role of new transport director in Ærø Kommune. He comes from a position as chief legal consultant at Greenland’s national supply company Nukissiorfiit. He has previously been the managing director of Strandfaraskip Landsins, where he was responsible for managing public transport in the Faroe Islands, including the eight domestic ferries in the Faroe Islands.

“As the new transport director, I look forward to leading the overall mobility on Ærø, where we both safeguard the traditional ferry operation and the local traffic on the island. At the same time, we must set a course towards a greener and more future-proof transport,” says Hilmar Eliasen.

“I will dedicate full attention to ensuring continued purpose-driven service with the current capacity, while we work targeted on the development and phasing in of new emission-free ferries,” says the incoming transport director.

Hilmar Eliasen is 58 years old, grew up in the Faroe Islands, and is moving to Ærø in connection with his appointment. Privately, he is married to Pavla, and together they have three adult sons.

“I am sure that Hilmar is the right director for Ærøfærgerne. With Hilmar, Ærø gets a transport director with an impressive breadth of experience and a strong strategic understanding of both operations and development. I look forward to the collaboration and am convinced that Hilmar will be a strong driving force in the work to ensure efficient, sustainable, and future-proof transport on Ærø,” says Allan Krogh Filtenborg, municipal director of Ærø Kommune.

Hilmar Eliasen succeeds Kim Nielsen, who only spent a few months in the position before he resigned on June 12, citing differing views regarding the ambition level in the development of Ærøfærgerne.
