A delegation from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Spain has visited the port of Algeciras. The delegation, headed by the first secretary and director of the Consular Section of the Embassy, Zhang Jin, who was accompanied by the attaché of the consular section, Liu Haixi, and the vice president of the Association of Chinese in Andalusia, Chen Sumiao, was received by the president of the Port Authority (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce, and part of the commercial team, who reviewed the close commercial relationship that exists between the port of the Strait and the Asian country. This relationship was strengthened seven years ago following the signing of the Algeciras-Ningbo Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed by both ports during the state visit to Spain by President Xi Jinping in 2018.
The consular delegation showed particular interest in the operation of the maritime ‘bridge’ of the Strait, which allows for a constant flow of goods transported by truck between Europe and Morocco, as well as the increase in passenger traffic and their vehicles in the current period with both Tangier ports from those of Algeciras and Tarifa. Similarly, they discussed the latest data on Andalusian exports from Algeciras to the Chinese market, such as the 150% increase in shipments of olive oil.
