Anemoi signs deal with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group to develop Rotor Sail designs for LNG carriers

Must read

Anemoi Marine Technologies has inked a Joint Design Cooperation Agreement with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group, marking a significant stride in the incorporation of Rotor Sails into the design of LNG carrier newbuildings. The agreement, signed on 26 October by Nick Contopoulos, COO of Anemoi, and Wang Jiaying, Director of Research and Design Department from Hudong-Zhonghua, aims to assess the viability and design specifications of Rotor Sails for LNG carriers.

The collaboration is poised to develop specifications and designs that could serve as a blueprint for future installation projects, aligning with the shipping industry’s evolving environmental targets. The initiative is also expected to bolster the credibility of Rotor Sail technology among gas carrier owners, facilitating the seamless introduction of a new generation of eco-friendly LNG carriers.

Rotor Sails are particularly well-suited for contemporary LNG carriers, given the ample deck space and minimal interference with cargo operations. Anemoi’s Rotor Sails have seen a surge in adoption in recent months, as ship owners seek to capitalise on wind power to achieve substantial fuel and emission savings.

Nick Contopoulos expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “With mounting regulatory pressure concerning emissions and environmental conservation, ship owners are in search of practical, easily implementable technologies to enhance energy efficiency. Anemoi has been at the forefront of wind propulsion technology, and this new venture represents a pivotal moment in making Rotor Sails an integral part of the maritime industry’s decarbonisation efforts.”

Earlier this year, Anemoi announced plans to ramp up its production capacity, aiming to install up to 50 Rotor Sails annually by the close of 2023, a target driven by the escalating demand for this innovative technology.
