Antaq supervises operation of ships that will host COP30 guests

Must read

The National Waterway Transportation Agency of Brazil (Antaq) is working in an integrated manner with the port authority and inspection bodies to provide logistical support for COP30, which is being held in Belém, and within this framework, the regional management team is closely monitoring the operation at the Outeiro Passenger Terminal of the ships that will function as floating hotels for the event’s participants, which will take place from November 10 to 21.

“Our role is to ensure that the entire waterway infrastructure functions efficiently and safely, contributing to the logistical success of COP 30,” stated Cleydson Silva, manager of Antaq’s regional office in Belém.

Since the planning phase, which began in March 2025, Antaq has overseen the design, construction, and operation of the Outeiro Passenger Terminal, as well as the strategic infrastructure to support the circulation of people and goods during the conference. The terminal, an extension of the Port of Belém, underwent structural and modernization works with a total approximate investment of USD 43.7 million.

The Agency’s activities include inspections, joint audits, and technical monitoring of all the port infrastructure involved, in partnership with Cesportos, the Federal Revenue Service, the Brazilian Navy, the Federal Police, and the Port Authority.

The Antaq team has already supervised the docking of the two cruise ships in Outeiro and the arrival of the participants staying on board. Both operations were carried out with complete safety and without incidents, thanks to the good weather and sea conditions.

During the event, the ships will remain moored and stabilized, functioning exclusively as floating hotels. The transport of guests is facilitated by more than 80 buses dedicated to the transfer between the airport and the terminal.

Transport to the ships is carried out by 35 minibuses and vans, in a coordinated system to ensure the fluidity and safety of the service.
