Must read

Through Resolution /2025, the National Government of Argentina assigned 50 thousand electric and hybrid cars for entry into the country without tariffs, within the framework of the 2026 tender for the import of alternative mobility technologies.

The call includes fully electric vehicles (operate on battery only); hybrids (combustion engine and electric motor); mild hybrids (combustion engine and auxiliary electric motor), and plug-in hybrids (combustion engine and plug-in electric motor). In total, 71 models from 32 different brands will enter.

Of the 50 thousand assigned cars, 19,280 will be for terminal companies and 30,720 correspond to importers, who absorbed the units not requested by the automakers. In this way, the flow of entry of this type of vehicle that began during 2025 with the two calls made this year continues, and it is expected that by next January 50 thousand units from those calls will have entered.

The launch of the 2026 call is so that applicants have the necessary time for the manufacturing and shipping of the assigned units.

Likewise, 9,856 thousand remaining units from the 2025 quota will be assigned among the importers who submitted applications for this call. These units will be entering the country before January 31, 2026.

“The models that will enter the country will compete in all segments with the traditional vehicles already available on the market, in many cases offering more competitive prices /or a better level of equipment. This initiative represents an opportunity for Argentina to integrate into the global market and the value chain linked to new technologies,” emphasized the statement from the Argentine government.
