Capodistria – An important step forward for the project to double the railway under construction between the Slovenian port of Capodistria and the Divaccia junction. While work on the infrastructure continues by the companies commissioned by the public company 2Tdk (delivery expected in 2026), the contract for the design of the second track, which will run parallel to the one under construction, has been awarded. Once the latter is also completed, the current single track connecting the port will be decommissioned and its route transformed into a bicycle path.
The announcement of the €29 million contract award was made by 2Tdk, which had launched the tender on June 18 to assign the design and environmental documentation of the railway line: a 27.1-kilometer route, largely underground, with 8 tunnels, 2 viaducts, 1 gallery, and 2 bridges. The only bid received was from the consortium of Elea iC, Irgo Consulting, and SŽ – Projektivno podjetje Ljubljana. After reviewing the documentation, 2Tdk determined that the bid is admissible and complete, as it meets all requirements.
In the first phase, the documentation to obtain the construction permit and the executive project will be prepared, preceded by geological-geomechanical and hydrogeological surveys. An analysis of the project’s impacts, including cross-border assessment, will also be developed. The contractor will have to harmonize the technical construction specifications with those of the current track under construction. After the start of the construction site, the designers will finally provide technical supervision for the entire duration of the works.
