Must read

The German-flagged barge Inn suffered an accident on 11th October on the River Main near Viereth-Trunstadt, Germany. The crane aboard the vessel struck overhead power lines, causing a local outage. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred while the vessel was moored at Viereth Lock to offload a car from its deck using the onboard crane. During the lifting operation, however, the crane’s boom accidentally swung into high-voltage power lines, snapping a cable.

Around 60 metres of the power line fell into the river, triggering the outage in the surrounding area. River traffic was halted for several hours as a safety measure. Repairs were completed the same day, restoring power.

The exact extent of the damage has not been reported, and the vessel was fined by the water police.

The Inn is a German-flagged, self-propelled barge with a length of 187 metres and a beam of 11 metres.
