During the docking process of a passenger-tourist (/R) vessel of Palau flag at the port of Vatheos in Samos, a malfunction occurred in the steering system and difficulty in docking maneuvers.
Personnel of the Samos Port Authority who were on site ascertained that, during the vessel’s contact with the quay wall, minor deformation and paint abrasions were caused. Furthermore, the existence of a crack above the waterline on the vessel’s starboard bow side was confirmed, while no injuries were reported and no marine pollution was observed. By the Samos Port Authority conducting the preliminary investigation, the departure of the vessel was prohibited until the submission of a seaworthiness certificate by the ship surveyor monitoring the vessel.
