Italian vessel owner names its latest cutting-edge ship escort tug after its construction in Turkey
Italian owner Ocean SRL named its latest newbuild tugTiger at a ceremony in Istanbul, Turkey. This escort tug will support ships into ports in the northern Adriatic and provide emergency response assistance.
Uzmar Shipyard built this 32-m tug to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAstar 3200W, with 80 tonnes of bollard pull, a FiFi1 fire-fighting system and oil recovery equipment on board.
Tiger’s propulsion consists of two Caterpillar-manufactured Cat 3516E main diesel, four-stroke engines, rated at 2,350 kW at 1,800 rpm, with exhaust gases flowing through an aftertreatment system for IMO Tier III compliance, driving two Kongsberg US255 Z-drives with 2.8-m diameter fixed-pitch propellers.
During the naming ceremony, held on 10 February, Ocean SRL managing director Michela Cattaruzza said it was “a truly emotional and honourable moment”.She was the top executive of the family run tug owner at the naming event, and described construction and deployment of Tiger as a journey for the company.
“This has been a truly remarkable experience, and I sincerely hope it will be the first of many more to come,” said Mrs Cattaruzza, who has worked in the industry for 28 years.
