Boluda Towage continues to advance in its global expansion strategy after acquiring from the Dutch company Royal Boskalis BV its towage and maritime salvage business in Australia and Papua New Guinea. The transaction, valued at 640 million dollars, consolidates Boluda at the top of the maritime towage business with a presence on five continents and the world’s most powerful fleet comprised of more than 850 vessels – including tugs and salvage ships.

Boluda Towage will thus have an operational capacity in more than 232 ports worldwide, more than 8,000 sailors and a technical and administrative support team comprised of 1,500 professionals of 35 nationalities, which will allow it to offer a global service to its clients. According to Vicente Boluda Ceballos, president of Boluda Towage, “With this acquisition, we improve the service and operability for our clients, consolidating our position as the world’s leading towage company, with a presence on all continents.”

Infrastructure Development

“Furthermore,” he continues, “we want to continue supporting the development of the infrastructure in the ports where we operate by improving efficiency, safety and sustainability.” The ports of Sydney, Perth, Botany, Gladstone, Brisbane, Newcastle, Melbourne, Weipa, Mackay, Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) and Launceston (Tasmania) are industrial docks with significant movement of raw materials such as iron, coal, natural gas, gold and lithium, which are essential for the energy, technology and steel industries.

These ports play a key role in the global economy, as they connect Australia’s natural resource production with major world markets, especially Asia, guaranteeing its role as an exporting power in global maritime trade. Following this operation, Boluda Towage is positioned worldwide, reinforcing its presence in Asia, where it is also present in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Timor-Leste.
