The Port Complex of Pecém surpassed the total number of containers handled during the entire previous year in October. With more than two months remaining in 2025, the Port of Pecém reached 582,238 TEU. In all of 2024, the volume was 555,350 TEU, a record at the time. The total cargo handling at the maritime facility reached 17,045,228 tons in October, 7% more than the previous year.
The result reflected the increase in import and export operations, the strengthening of maritime routes, and the performance of the companies located in the Pecém Complex.
“Surpassing the total volume handled in October of the previous year is more than a record; it is proof that the Port of Pecém is consolidating itself as the new hub connecting Brazil and the world. This result reflects the strength of a committed team, the success of strategic alliances, and the vision for the future that guides every investment in the Pecém Complex. We are building, day after day, a port that is increasingly modern, competitive, and essential for the development of Ceará and the country,” emphasized Max Quintino, president of the Complex.
According to Roberto de Castro, operations director of the facility, “this record is a direct result of the commitment and operational excellence of all professionals involved in our port operations. We work in an integrated manner, prioritizing safety, speed, and quality in customer service, and the results demonstrate the efficiency of our team.”
One of the main factors for the increase was the new weekly route to Asia, which reduced transport time by 50% from 60 to about 30 days. It officially started in April and was already operating with additional stops since the beginning of the year. The route strengthens the competitiveness of clients and is already responsible for almost half of the growth recorded in the segment this year. The new shipping service, called Santana, is operated by MSC in collaboration with APM Terminals and establishes a direct connection between the main ports in Asia and the Port of Pecém.
“APM Terminals has boosted Ceará’s presence on the main international trade routes, consolidating the state as a growing logistics hub. This achievement reflects our commitment to an increasingly efficient, safe, and sustainable operation. It is the result of a continuous process of modernization and, above all, of the dedication of a committed team that makes the daily operation of the terminal possible,” stated Daniel Rose, general director of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém, the company responsible for container operations at the Port of Pecém.
