The Port Authority of Santos (APS) received the mayors of Santos and Guarujá, Rogério Santos and Farid Madi, the federal deputy Paulo Alexandre Barbosa, coordinator of the External Commission for monitoring the works of the Santos-Guarujá Tunnel – from the Chamber of Deputies –, and representatives of the company Mota-Engil, winner of the auction for the implementation of the Santos-Guarujá tunnel.
According to the president of APS, Anderson Pomini, the objective of this meeting was to introduce the parties: “We will be together for the next 30 years,” Pomini joked, recalling the project’s concession period.
“APS is committed to the population and the port users, who will be affected by the project, so the more information we have, the greater the support we will receive,” noted Pomini.
The president stated that planning will be necessary to minimize the impact on port operations and assured that “we need to understand the project’s requirements to assess the impact on maritime, land, and rail traffic, all in consultation with the community and all customers.”
Mota-Engil introduced itself, stating that it will work closely with APS and the city halls. According to representatives of the construction company, the company already has the necessary experience to work on a project of this magnitude, as it has projects all over the world.
“It is an emblematic project that introduces new technology in the country; it will be built with the port in operation, so maximum precaution will be taken to work together with APS,” they noted.
The mayors, in turn, presented their concerns and wishes for their municipalities, such as job creation, housing, the reform of the city’s road system, and the qualification of service providers, among others. Paulo Alexandre Barbosa noted that the inhabitants of Baixada Santista have been waiting for the tunnel for a hundred years.
