Brazil: VLI reaches record monthly fertilizer movement at Tiplam

Must read

VLI carried out the largest monthly discharge of imported fertilizers in its history at the Integrated Port Terminal Luiz Antonio Mesquita (Tiplam). The 285,000 tons unloaded, originating from markets such as North America, the Middle East and China, were destined for Brazilian agro-industrial production centers such as Goiás, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso.

The logistics solutions company that operates railways, ports and terminals VLI is the largest railway transporter of fertilizers in the country, responsible for 90% of the flow of sulfur, phosphate rock and ammonia.

Tiplam is the starting point of the import and export flow of VLI’s Southeast Corridor, which crosses states such as Goiás, Minas Gerais and São Paulo. With the goal of maximizing this operational potential, the company finalized in May the increase of the draft of the terminal’s piers, allowing it to receive larger vessels. One of the results of this initiative was the recent operation of the largest volume of fertilizers in the terminal’s history on a single vessel, with a total of 72,600 tons.

“More than a simple numerical record, the record volume of fertilizer input movement at Tiplam demonstrates our commitment to serving our clients in this segment and the company’s contribution to Brazilian agribusiness in all phases of the process, from planting to export, as we transport grains through all our logistics corridors. We remain focused on safety and operational excellence to achieve increasingly positive results and generate value for our clients’ businesses,” stated Gabriel Fonseca, General Manager of Grains and Fertilizers Sales at VLI.

In addition to the Southeast Corridor, VLI transports fertilizer inputs in two other important logistics corridors, the East, which connects the Triângulo Mineiro region with the port system of Espírito Santo through the Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica railway, controlled by the company, and the Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas railway, where VLI is in the transition process to operate as a Railway Freight Transport Agent (ATF-C); and the North, which connects Tocantins with the ports of São Luís (MA), through the northern stretch of the Ferrovia Norte-Sul railway, also controlled by the firm, and the Estrada de Ferro Carajás train, where the company’s convoys travel by right of way.
