Turkish shipyard completes conversion of nine-year-old PSV to geotechnical drilling vessel for long-term charter to Seas Geosciences
Turkey’s Beskitas Shipyard has completed the conversion of a platform supply vessel to a geotechnical drilling vessel for Seas Geosciences.
To enhance the drilling capabilities of BOS Princess, the shipyard undertook a moonpool opening, added a rig tower and installed an A-frame. The vessel underwent an overhaul, and maintenance on its azimuth thruster.
Owned by Britoil Offshore Services, 80-m, DP2-classBOS Princess is under a multi-year charter to Seas Geosciences.
At the time of the announcement of the charter in August 2024, Seas Geosciences president, Paolo Casciotti, said the converted BOS Princess would be outfitted with a fully automated topside geotechnical rig, innovative seabed CPT system and an array of geotechnical tools to provide a stable platform for the company’s geotechnical investigations for the offshore wind market.
“We are creating an asset that is 100% customised for the typical requirements of offshore wind developments,” he said.
It plans to deploy the nine-year-old vessel on a global scale, serving projects from the Mediterranean to the North Sea to the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America).
AIS data reported BOS Princess was sailing in the Aegean Sea, due to arrive at the port of Civitavecchia, Italy, on 19 March, according to VesselFinder.
