The president of the Liguria Region: “The Blue Economy today represents about 16% of the national GDP and can grow to 25%”
Genoa – “Liguria has built its history by looking to the sea: but there is no development without infrastructure, and today we continue this tradition with a long-term vision.” This was stated by the president of the Liguria Region, Marco Bucci, speaking during the opening day of the Genoa Shipping Week 2025 at the Porto Antico of Genoa.
Bucci illustrated the “new great project of the port of Genoa” which “will give back to the city three million square meters of sea: two dedicated to ship maneuvers and moorings and one million transformed into port spaces on land.” He described the project as “an investment that requires expertise and daily innovation, but which will make the strategic role of Liguria and Italy in the Mediterranean even stronger.” The president emphasized the potential of the Blue Economy, which “today represents about 16% of the national GDP and can grow to 25%.” “For this reason, we must seize the opportunity, creating development, work, and quality,” urged Bucci.
The governor then highlighted the attractiveness of Genoa for young people, pointing out that in recent years “more and more young people have chosen to study and work here, thanks to a university of excellence, costs lower than the average, and high standards of quality of life.” “Now is the time to build new opportunities and more student housing together. So, to young people I say that the sea is the future. Take up this challenge, because the world to come is in your hands,” concluded Bucci.
