Bulk carrier OS 35 (IMO 9172399) collided with LNG tanker Adam LNG (IMO 9501186) while leaving anchorage off Gibraltar Point at around 20:00 local time on August 29th. The Adam LNG was anchored at the time of collision, and did not suffer serious damage.
The OS 35 was reported to have sustained a hull breach somewhere in fore section. It developed a heavy fore tilt and a slight starboard list. However, the water ingress could not be brought under control, so the ship was taken to the other side of the peninsula and deliberately grounded at Catalan Bay in order to avoid sinking.
As of 07:00 Tuesday the Gibraltar government said that the situation remained stable with the bow of the OS 35 resting on the seabed in 17 metres of water, listing by three degrees to starboard.
A notice to mariners has been issued by the Gibraltar Port Authority, installing a 200-metre exclusion zone around the OS 35.
The bulk carrier was leaving Gibraltar to head to Vlissengen in the Netherlands at the time of the collision with the Adam LNG, which was heading into the Bay of Gibraltar. The LNG carrier was not damaged in the collision.
As of August 30th the Adam LNG was at Gibraltar West Anchorage, having arrived on August 29th from Marsaxlokk, Malta, from which it had sailed on August 26th.
As of August 30th the OS 35 was at anchor in Gibraltar, having arrived on August 29th from Sohar, Oman, from where it had set sail on August 9th.
The OS 35 was reported to have been carrying 183 tonnes of heavy fuel oil for its own consumption, alongside 250 tonnes of diesel and 27 tonnes of lube oil.
