Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has announced the appointment of Alex Gregg-Smith as President, Bureau Veritas, Marine & Offshore, as BV continues to make key changes in the organisation’s design and operating model to support its strategic ambition.
Currently SVP Marine and Offshore for Asia Pacific, Gregg-Smith, a dual UK-French national, starts his new role on 1 January 2026, and will be based in Paris. He will continue to report to Matthieu de Tugny, his predecessor in the role, who became EVP Industrials and Commodities in September 2025.
Gregg-Smith said: “The maritime industry sits at the intersections of global supply and value chains at a time of significant transition. In my role as President of the Marine and Offshore business, enabled and supported by the Industrials and Commodities Product Line, BV is mobilising and connecting the experience and know-how of a global group, active in all industrial sectors, to help the industry achieve its goals.”
de Tugny added: “Alex has a unique background and the right experience for this role, having spent 20 years with Bureau Veritas across two periods, alongside leadership roles in ship owners and shipyards. His engagement and commitment to the maritime industry, and the role of Class within it, are undeniable.”
In an increasingly complex maritime world, BV says it is evolving to ensure that the organisation continues to bring clients and stakeholders clarity, cross-sectorial insights and services that ensure safe, resilient and sustainable operations and businesses.
