Calchino’s cargo vessel rescues six Guinean fishermen

Must read

Jing Hai Xing, a subcontracted cargo vessel for Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco)’s bauxite project in the Republic of Guinea, rescued six local fishermen in the open water close to the Western African country on Nov 29, according to information released by China’s Ministry of Commerce.

While the ship was waiting for dispatch in the open sea, its captain found a wooden fishing boat drifting due to engine failure. The six local fishermen on board had been without food and water for several days and were in critical condition.

The staff on the Chinese ship immediately provided water and food to these fishermen, and informed the dispatch center and local authorities, respectively. The dispatch center sent Yick Tug 104, a tug vessel to transport these fishermen to the shore area afterwards.

The fishermen, their families and community elders expressed gratitude to the Chinese side after they were successfully rescued. This is the second time this year that workers of Chinalco’s bauxite project have rescued Guinean fishermen.

Jing Hai Xing is owned by Yick Fung Shipping and Enterprise Co Ltd, which is a subsidiary of Shanghai-based China COSCO Shipping Corp, the country’s largest shipping service provider by sales revenue.
