BGP and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have taken delivery of GP Innovator, a dynamic positioning(DP) shallow-water special exploration ship surveyed and classed by the China Classification Society (CCS).
GP Innovator is said to be the first large DP shallow-water special exploration ship constructed for the companies by Dalian Lushun Binhai Shipping Repairing and Building.
It features a total length of 88.23m, moulded breadth of 16.9m and maximum draft of 3m.
A fully-electric propulsion system has been deployed on GP Innovator, which facilitates the digital management and intelligent control of the ship control system.
The design of a broad flat bulbous bow was incorporated into the hull to improve the ship’s stability in shallow-water areas.
With a shallowest operation water depth of 5m, it also has integrated operation potential in comprehensive navigation, seismic source exciting, node retraction, data acquisition and quality control.
CCS stated that the vessel’s ‘shallow draft’ design enables it to meet the demands of shallow-water and deep-water operation areas as well as remain applicable for different maritime exploration blocks around the world.
Featuring globally advanced technologies, GP Innovator is a dual-function shallow-water large geophysical prospecting ship.
Furthermore, the technologically innovative results of the ship fill the gaps of similar maritime exploration equipment in the world.
CCS Dalian Branch extended its support to the shipowner, shipyard and design organisation during the construction of the ship.
In March, COSCO took delivery of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC), which was labelled as the world’s first such vessel by CCS.
It was constructed by the Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) in China.
