Ceará Port Authority opens talks with MPOR to lease new area at Fortaleza port

Must read

The Ceará Port Authority (Companhia Docas do Ceará – CDC) has begun negotiations with the Federal Government’s Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPOR) to lease an additional area to the private sector.

The area in question, known as MUC 05, spans approximately 35,000 square meters and handles solid mineral bulk cargoes, including clinker and petroleum coke.

Discussions took place on Wednesday and Thursday this week, when an MPOR delegation attended multiple meetings at the CDC and conducted a technical visit to the Port of Fortaleza.

The Project

The future lessee is expected to invest in infrastructure, including the construction of a new 10,000-square-meter warehouse – nearly double the current 6,000-square-meter facility – and to have expertise in handling solid mineral bulk cargoes, products crucial to the cement industry, a key segment of the construction sector.

Currently, the petroleum coke handled at the Port of Fortaleza is imported from the United States and supplied to local industries in Ceará. Clinker, in turn, is produced within the state and sold to other Brazilian states.

According to MPOR, the lease of MUC 05 is expected to be finalized next year.

Beyond improving the port’s infrastructure, the investment will generate fixed revenue for the CDC and forms part of the Federal Government’s Port Leasing Program.

Delegation

The delegation included Carlos Magno Filho, General Coordinator of Port Leases at MPOR’s National Ports Secretariat (/MPOR), and the technical team from the Laboratory of Transport and Logistics at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (/UFSC) – contracted by MPOR to develop the project. The team comprised Project Manager Rodrigo Nohra, Technical Project Lead Daniele Sehn, Environmental Team Lead José Pedro Francisconi Júnior, and Economist Bruno Duarte.

They were received by CDC’s Commercial Director José Júnior, Presidential Advisor Roberto Loureiro, and other coordinators.
