The CGIL Chamber of Labor of Piombino, together with Spi and Fiom, participated in a peace vigil against the use of the port for the transit of weapons. The initiative, promoted by the “Women in Black” group, was held this morning at Piazzale Premuda in Piombino and was motivated by the arrival of the ship Capucine, whose cargo has raised concerns among local associations and trade unions.
The participation of the CGIL reaffirms the union’s adherence to the “No ReArm Europe” campaign. “Weapons cannot be considered a commodity like any other – emphasized David Romagnani, coordinator of the Chamber of Labor of Piombino, for the delegation – violence and conflicts find fertile ground in indifference and silence.”
The vigil launched an appeal not only to the institutions, but also to the port operators and workers. The invitation is to reflect on the meaning of one’s actions and to refrain from collaborating with arms trafficking that fuels international conflicts. The CGIL of Livorno thus confirms its clear position, already expressed by the transport sector as well: “No to the sending of weapons, yes to a future of peace and cooperation among peoples” concludes the well-known trade union note.
