The Distinguished Service Award is presented to an individual who has made a contribution of significance to shipping during their lifetime
The Distinguished Service Award was presented to John Ramage, who is the chief operating officer of International Registries, Inc and its affiliates (IRI), which provide administrative and technical support to the Republic of the Marshall Islands Registry.
The award was presented by law firm Norton Rose Fulbright senior consultant Harry Theochari.
Mr Ramage is well-known in the tanker industry and has spoken recently to Tanker Shipping & Trade on the subject of crew change.
He noted that during the pandemic, the issue of crew change was one that is particularly complex for flag state and administrations to provide leadership on and the Marshall Islands encouraged managers to look at alternative ways, he said. “Some of our owners have deviated vessels to ports where crew changes can take place and made use of scheduled flights.”
