Chile’s Southern Cone Ports Corp. (Cono Sur) leaders met with Tourism Undersecretary Verónica Kunze to plan the next cruise season and agree on a joint work agenda to promote cruising’s development.
Topics included programming for the /23 cruise season, which begins in September and ends in April, as well as the need to define uniform health criteria for arriving passengers and crew.
Port infrastructure challenges were analyzed to meet the demand of this sector during the coming years. This would lead to a cruise development plan thatallowsalternatives and ongoing port projects for the future development of theindustry.
Cono Sur also requested the support of the undersecretary to carry out a joint participation atSeatrade Cruise Global 2023 in Miami, May 1-4.
Productive meeting
Kunze called it a ‘very good meeting’ that resulted in plans to work on various issues.
The Cono Sur board participated,led by President Rodrigo Pommiez, VP Juan Marcos Mancilla and directors Fernando Gajardo and Enrique Runin.
More than 380 cruise calls expected
Pommiez expressed optimism for the /23 season, with 380 calls and more than 375,000 passengers projected.
‘Collaborative, coordinated and articulated work with the authorities and the different actors allows us to anticipate certain requirements, generating a cohesive response as a country destination and promoting the growth of this industry, whose contribution is essential for economic and social development,’ Pommiez said.
