China: DaChan Bay Terminals completes first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation

Must read

DaChan Bay Terminals marked an important milestone with the start of the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship-to-ship supply at its facilities west of Shenzhen. The terminals are operated by Hong Kong-based Modern Terminals Limited.

At DaChan Bay Terminals, the ZIM Jasper container ship received 2,000 tonnes of LNG from the supply vessel Xin Ao Pu Tou Hao, supplied by Shenzhen PetroChina International LNG Bunkering Co., Ltd. via a ship-to-ship transfer.

The ZIM Jasper is one of 28 modern LNG-powered vessels operated by ZIM in its global network. This type of operation allows ships to receive fuel while container loading and unloading operations are carried out at the dock.

Horace Lo, Group Managing Director of Modern Terminals Limited, stated that “these inaugural LNG supply operations at DaChan Bay Terminals consolidate the development of our port facilities as sustainable ports. In June, we achieved the first simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) LNG supply in Hong Kong at Modern Terminals Hong Kong, and with the successful launch of LNG supply services at DaChan Bay Terminals, all our customers will be able to access LNG supply at any of our facilities.”

“We will continue to work with all stakeholders to help ensure that any green marine fuel needed by shipping lines is available at our terminal facilities in both Hong Kong and DaChan Bay,” added Lo.
