Must read

ABS Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki has announced his decision to retire at the end of 2025, concluding a distinguished 14-year leadership.

Upon election by the ABS Board of Directors, current ABS President and Chief Operating Officer John McDonald is expected to assume the role of Chairman and CEO beginning January 1, 2026. The announcement came during the 163rd ABS Annual Members Meeting, where members also heard updates on ABS’s strong 2024 performance. The organization reported a fleet of more than 300 million gross tons and retained its top global position in new order share among classification organizations.

I want to thank the ABS Board of Directors, our dedicated employees, and my family for their unwavering support. Over the years, we’ve weathered immense challenges—from the global pandemic and industry downturns to fast-moving technological and regulatory changes. Yet, through strategic investments and a clear vision, ABS has emerged as a leader in safety, technology, and sustainability.

As ABS celebrates continued success and prepares for its next chapter, Wiernicki’s leadership leaves a legacy of resilience, growth, and transformation. In April 2023, Christopher J. Wiernicki was awarded the GREEN4SEA Leadership Award, recognizing his industry leadership and contribution to a more sustainable industry.
