The food company Cidacos and the terminal Hutchison Ports BEST are consolidating their logistic collaboration to make it more sustainable the use of the train as an alternative to road transport. Cidacos’s objective is ambitious: to reach a 60% rail share of multimodal transport in 2028, provided that the infrastructure supports the company’s logistic growth. Cidacos has made intermodality a central pillar of its sustainability strategy since 2022, orienting the supply chain logistics towards the reduction of the carbon footprint and the promotion of sustainable solutions.
This collaboration not only optimizes Cidacos’s logistics, but also reinforces the role of Hutchison Ports BEST as a facilitator of sustainable solutions for the industry. “Moving part of our goods by ship to BEST in Barcelona helps us achieve our decarbonization objectives by connecting the ship with the train. From there, Synergy continues the journey by rail to the CLIR in Agoncillo, very close to our production units,” stated Cidacos’s logistics manager, Marta Castro.
In turn, BEST is advancing in its decarbonization plan which aims to reduce the emissions of its operations by 80% by 2030 and to be a zero-emissions terminal before 2040. “We are very proud to be part of this cooperation, providing an efficient and sustainable logistic solution, while generating a competitive advantage for Cidacos,” commented Guillermo Belcastro, CEO of Hustchison Ports BEST.
