Fuel-saving potential from implementing autonomous navigation technology has been confirmed by a classification society, a container ship operator and ship registry

Avikus has gained a certificate of compliance from classification society ABS for its fuel-saving verification framework that was developed for its HiNAS Control autonomous navigation system.

In a project run by Avikus and South Korean shipping company HMM Co and Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry, ABS analysed performance data from vessels with HiNAS Control installed.

A verification framework was developed by Avikus to predict potential fuel savings in general vessel operation, which was also reviewed by ABS.

When HiNAS is deployed, it provides officers with a suggested optimal route and speed information and can automatically control vessel steering and propulsion revolutions, while avoiding collisions and reducing fuel consumption.

ABS reviewed the installation of the system and found it compliant with ABS requirements for autonomous and remote-control functions.
