Cma Cgm also announces a 43% Ets surcharge

Must read

After Hapag Lloyd, Cma Cgm has also informed its customers that from January 1st, the costs of the surcharge related to the ETS regulation – Emission Trading System will increase.

The reason is that, based on the phased implementation mechanism desired by Brussels for the regulation, from January 1st, emitters will be required to pay not for 70% of the carbon dioxide produced, but for 100%: “Following this change, we anticipate an increase of approximately 43% in the current ETS surcharge amounts.”

The exact amount, however, is still being defined and Cma Cgm reserves the right to revise it even during the process: “Please note that this estimate does not account for potential CO2 price fluctuations, which could further influence the final surcharge amounts. The amounts for the first quarter of 2026 for the entire commercial coverage affected by the EU ETS system will be available by December 1st, 2025.”
