CMA CGM forms Nhava Sheva terminal concession JV

Must read

CMA CGM Group subsidiary CMA Terminals (CMAT) and J M Baxi Group’s unit J M Baxi Ports & Logistics have secured a tender for the privatisation of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) in India.

The joint venture (JV) partners will form a new entity, Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal, for the development of the multi-user terminal on the Indian west coast. CMAT and J M Baxi Ports & Logistics will each own a 50% stake in the terminal.

The Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal (NSFT) will modernise the port’s own container terminal (JNPCT), the oldest of five facilities in the complex, with a $111m investment. JNPCT has a 680m-quay and an annual capacity of 1.5m teus. NSFT will increase capacity to 1.8m teus and the draught to 15 metres.

“The group is consolidating its end-to-end service offering and establishing greater control over the logistics chain to offer its customers higher quality, integrated, digital, and more environmentally friendly services in a context that requires a comprehensive approach to the supply chain,” said CMA CGM.

In India, CMAT already has a terminal partnership at Mundra Port, and it will likely strive to harvest some synergies from the consolidation. With 20 branch offices across India and a combined workforce of 7,528, CMA CGM Group has carried out operations in India for more than 33 years.
