The specialised project cargo division of the french Shipping company CMA CGM, transported two rail cars from China to Canada, via container ship. The rail cars are the first batch of Montreal’s double-decker, stainless steel coach project.
The trains will be used for regional commuter rail in Montreal and its suburbs. They were commissioned by the Montreal Transportation Authority, or Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM), also known as Exo, to develop and build the railcars. Bombardier Transportation took over operations in 2017 and has an eight-year contract.
The rail cars were developed and produced by the Chinese rolling stock manufacturer, the CRRC Tangshan Company, based in Tangshan, Hebei province. It is the first instance of a Chinese trunk line double-decker stainless steel railway passenger car being exported to North America.
