The sale of the Sofia is part of the fleet renewal plan
Brussels – The Belgian company Cmb.Tech Nv has announced the sale of the Sofia, a Suezmax tanker built in 2010 with a capacity of 165,000 dwt. The operation, concluded on August 25 for a net value of 40.1 million dollars, will generate a gain of approximately 20.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, when the vessel will be delivered to the new owner.
The sale is part of the fleet rejuvenation strategy. Earlier this year, the company had already sold three VLCCs — Iris, Hakone and Hakata — with total proceeds of 96.7 million dollars. The Iris was delivered in May, the Hakone in July, while the Hakata will be transferred in September 2025.
The group, after the merger with Golden Ocean Group Limited, now manages a diversified fleet of approximately 250 vessels with an estimated value of 11.1 billion dollars, with an average age of 6.1 years. More than 80 units are already ready to operate on hydrogen and ammonia. At the same time, the company announced the resignation of Marc Saverys from the chairmanship of the supervisory board. Saverys, who joined the board in March 2023 as a non-independent member, has decided to leave the position after just over a year.
