CMHI Weihai Shipyard Completes Maintenance Project for MV Fengyu Ahead of Schedule

Must read

The Engineering Management Department of China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyard “addressed the shipowner’s urgency and thought from the shipowner’s perspective,” completing the maintenance task for the M/V Fengyu’s hatch covers two days ahead of schedule. On August 24, the vessel departed the company and entered into operation.

Repairing the hatch covers was a key project of this maintenance for the M/V Fengyu. Faced with the challenge of achieving high concentric accuracy for the intermediate hinges of the folding-type hatch covers, the Engineering Management Department organized a skilled team to tackle the problem, completing the攻关 (technical攻关) in two days, cutting the planned cycle time in half, and gaining time for subsequent dock folding tests and functional tests after the hatch covers were installed. The outfitting and manufacturing departments’ operators worked in close coordination to fabricate tooling, remove hinge pins, repair damaged sections of the hatch covers, complete functional tests, and debug key equipment such as block clearances and gasket compression, controlling tolerances within the standard range. The high-pressure water tightness test was passed in a single attempt.

The project team and operators completed the M/V Fengyu maintenance project with high quality and efficiency, creating value for the customer while further enhancing the market influence of the Youlian brand.
