On the morning hours of 5/10, the Port Authority of Symi was informed by the Captain of a cargo (C/V) ship under the Greek flag that it had struck a rocky area south of Symi in the early morning hours.
The cargo ship, which had departed from Rhodes destined for the port “TSIGKELI” of Volos, loaded with 487 M.T. of Scrap, sailed under its own power to the port “PEDI” of Symi, where two fractures were found on the right bow section above the waterline.
No injuries were reported from the incident, no marine pollution was observed, and there was no water ingress. The Symi Port Authority prohibited the departure of the C/V ship until the submission of a certificate of seaworthiness from the ship surveyor monitoring the vessel.
